Leaving the US

My glasses re-appear! Someone handed them in to the reception desk, thank goodness. The silly receptionist says, as she returns them, “Oh, I thought you were looking for your sunglasses”…
A 6 hour flight? What’s that all about? Sure I’ll be there in no time at all! There’ll be more time spent in the airport than […]

OK so on March 17, everyone in New York dresses in green and pretends to be Irish, and goes to the parade. Turns out that June 10th is the equivalent for Puerto Rica. Big parade, and far too many people lining 5th Avenue. Central Park is packed with people wearing the Puerto Rican flag - […]

7:30am - bus arrives in New York, people not going to Boston get off the bus, and bus departs. Items of mine which are still in Tortoise Orbit: 1 notebook, 1 towel, 1 pair flip-flops, 1 water bottle. None of these are particularly important, apart from my notebook, which had all the notes I was […]

Full day in Washington D.C.
Morning - breakfast in the train station - people here are rude! One of us bumped against someone, apologies, only to be flipped of and cursed at in return.
White House tours - booked out for today.
F.B.I. tours - 2 hour wait - no thank you.
Smithsonian - free entry, but full of […]

Tallest lighthouse in North America - so there! Tonight - camping on north carolina beaches. I have my tent, but some people thought it would be fun to camp on the beach, instead of on the bus. So when a thunderstorm decided to downpour at 2am, I was safe and dry, while others came running […]

AAAiiiiiiii….alligators! Until noon we were camped at Mr. Denny’s Voageur Swamp Tour, in the New Orleands Honey Island Swamp. Everyone woke up absolutely covered in mosquito bites! Ah well, what can be done? The bus did two trips, keeping everyone busy until lunchtime, and giving everyone a chance to spot alligators.
During the afternoon we do […]

A full day in New Orleans! I hunted for VOODOO…and found it.
There’s even VooDoo in the Jazz Museum (in the former U.S. Mint building.) In the evening the bus went wandering down Burbon Street in strange clothes. The bus departed at midnight, drove for an hour, and then stopped to camp on Mr. Denny’s front […]
